INSTRUCTIONS
PREPARATION OF SURFACE:
Remove accumulations of dirt, dust, efflorescence and other loose materials. Open mortar joints, cracks and holes should be cut out and scraped clean, then wet down and fill with stucco. Allow sufficient time for the mortar in the work repaired to set.
When removing previous finishes, be sure the surfaces are thoroughly washed with water to remove all traces of caustic soda or acid before applying paint. Dampen wall before applying first coat.
PREPARATION OF PAINT:
SOAK PAINT WITH SPECIFIED AMOUNT OF WATER FOR 30 MINUTES BEFORE USING.
FIRST COAT: Mix 1 0 pounds of Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint to 5 quarts of water. Add the paint slowly while stirring the water. This will avoid the forming of lumps.
A thinner first coat is recommended so that it can penetrate into the surface pores and cracks and seal them, preparing a good base for the next coat.
SECOND COAT: Mix 1 0 pounds of Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint to 4 quarts of water. If this is put through a screen, a much smoother job will result. Before applying second coat, be sure to dampen the first coat applied.
The second coat can be applied 24 hours following the application of the first coat.
Where only one coat is to be applied, use 10 pounds of Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint to 4 quarts of water. For a particularly heavy coat of paint, simply reduce the amount of water recommended.
FOR SWIMMING POOLS: Use 4 quarts of water with 10 pounds of point for the first coat and three and one-half quarts of water to ten pounds of paint for the second coat.
APPLICATION OF PAINT:
Apply with a bristle whitewash, calcimine Dutch or wall brush in applying the paint. Stir the paint occasionally to prevent settling.
Tests have shown that where waterproofing is a major factor, the best results are obtained by scrubbing the paint into the surface using a stiff fiber bristle brush such as a scrubbing brush or fender brush.
CAUTIONS:
Do not apply Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint on wood, smooth troweled concrete, gypsum plaster, wall boards, metal, glass or glazed tile.
Do not apply Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint on runways, sidewalks or floors except swimming or wading pools.
Do not apply Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint over previously latex oil painted surfaces, unless film is removed.
Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint will not bond permanently to non-absorbent surfaces such as enameled brick, glazed brick or hard burned non-porous tile.
Do not apply Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint when temperature is below 450 F or if rain is imminent, as observance of good weather conditions will prevent paint runs and such surface discoloration as efflorescence, "blooming, etc.
Keep surfaces to be painted damp. Do not allow Mohawk Colorama Portland Cement Paint to dry too quickly after application. It should be kept damp until paint had hardened. Avoid painting on a wall exposed to the sun at the time of application.
COVERAGE:
Quantities needed depend upon the character of the surface. The covering capacity ranges from 15 to 35 square feet per one pound of paint for one coat, except for rough or open textured surfaces such as cinder and other light weight aggregate blocks or units.
One 50lb. bag will cover a minimum of 500 sq. ft. One bag makes 7 gallons of paint.
